Former Eagan City Council Candidate, Bicycle-riding Campaigner Dies at 74

Duane “Duey” Bendt died Aug. 28, 2013 at the age of 74.
Bendt was born in Edgerton, a small town in southwest Minnesota. After he graduated from Verdi High School in 1957 he enlisted in the Navy, which took him to Illinois and Virginia. After returning to Minnesota, he lived in Minneapolis and then Eagan.
He started his post-service career in 1961 at a company then known as Univac. After retiring in 2000, he decided to run for Eagan City Council. Residents may remember Bendt's bicycle campaign around Eagan. He didn't win, but he was given a position on the Eagan Planning Commission.
Bendt spent the last years of his life at Fifty Lakes, where he finally realized his dream of holding a seat on the city council.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Martha; sister, Janice; and grandson, Dillon.
Bendt is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Kevin (Lynn), Keith (Lisa), and Kyle (April); daughters, Kim and Karla; grandchildren, Ashley, Shauna, Derek, Maegan, Christin, Zachary, Tyler, Alex, Connor, Matthew, and Jacob; sisters, Delores (Dennis), Sharon (Paul) and Kathy (Hanna); brother, David (Kim); and many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, at MontCalvary Lutheran Church in Eagan. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Bendt will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Mary Susan Wolf
Mary Susan Wolf, of Apple Valley, died on Aug. 30, 2013 due to multiple organ failure. She was 72.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Clarence Gilbertson. Wolf is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ken; children, Ken, Mike and Sue (Mike) Burns; grandchildren, Glenn, Casey, Megan, Katelyn, Stephanie, Katie and Isabella.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Eagan. Visitation will take place two hours prior to mass at church. Memorials to the American Red Cross Blood Bank are preferred.
Richard L. Madison
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather & Brother
Dick, age 68 of Eagan, suddenly joined his loving wife, Peggy in heaven on August 22, 2013.
He will be missed by his children, Patricia (Darryl) Madison-Gruber & Rodd (Cheryl) Madison; grandchildren, Lauren, Cody, Paige, Dalton & LeeAnne; brother, Dale (Kristen); and other relatives & friends.
Thomas Navin Zinck
Thomas Navin Zinck, of Apple Valley, died Aug. 16, 2013 at the age of 86.
Zinck was a native of Dayton, OH, and a veteran of World War II. In life he was a member of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Eagan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Joey. Zinck is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie; children, Deb (John) Schneider of Columbus, OH, William (Sandy) of Seattle, WA, Julie (Lon) Buske of Apple Valley, Mary (Craig) Jenson of Eagan, Ellen (Lee) Kensinger of Detroit Lakes, and James of Apple Valley; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
