Here's How Residents Rated Eagan In Latest Community Survey
The city partners with an independent research firm to survey residents every two years. Eagan ranked highly among 600 cities nationally.
EAGAN, MN— Eagan residents gave their city high ratings in the biennial National Community Survey, the city said.
The survey asks residents questions that essentially describe what makes a community a good place to live, and a place where people want to live, the city said.
This year, the surveys were sent to 2,700 random households and the city received 522 responses, the city said.

"The National Community Survey allows us to gauge our residents’ perceptions about the city, track results over time, and make regional and national comparisons with 600 cities," the city said.
At least 95 percent of residents said they would recommend living in Eagan and they plan to live in Eagan for the next five years, the city said.

At least nine out of ten residents gave positive responses about the overall image and reputation of Eagan, as well as the city's overall safety, the city said.
“It’s gratifying to hear such positive regard from the Eagan community; stronger ratings affirm where we are performing particularly well, and others point us to things we can work on to improve our level of service to residents," Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire said. "The survey, having been conducted in the midst of the pandemic, gives us particularly good insight to how well we’ve done as a city and community thus far, and what our most important assets will be as we look to turn the corner in coming months.”
Eagan's residents rated their city higher than residents of cities similar to Eagan across the country, the city said.
Here is what Eagan residents named as their top priorities:
- 93 percent said the economy.
- 93 percent said public safety.
- 93 percent said natural environment.
- 89 percent said parks and recreation.
- 89 percent said infrastructure.
Eagan residents ranked their city above national benchmarks in the following categories:
- 98 percent said overall quality of life
- 98 percent said Eagan outranked other cities as a place to live:
- 92 percent said economic health
- 94 percent said feeling of safety
- 97 percent said quality of natural environment
- 96 percent said quality of parks and recreation opportunities*
- 94 percent said quality of infrastructure*
- 97 percent said health and wellness opportunities
- 96 percent said customer service
- 92 percent said government performance
Eagan was top rated nationally by its residents in the categories of "quality of parks and recreation opportunities" and "quality of infrastructure," the city said.
Eagan was a top-five rated community in the following categories:
- Value of services for taxes paid
- Overall confidence in Eagan government
- Generally acting in the best interest of the community
- Being open and transparent to the public
- Informing residents about issues facing the community
