Kids 'N Kinship Seeks School-Based Mentors

Make a meaningful impact by helping a child feel connected and successful at school this fall.

(Reading Time Together!)

It is the middle of summer, but teachers feel what we all know...the school year will be here before we know it! That means just as the teachers start preparing their lesson plans and classroom goals, we here at Kids 'n Kinship want to be a positive resource for the kids who need some additional adult assistance in the year to come. We partner with the following schools (Glacier Hills, Thomas Lake, Parkview and Westview) and would love to recruit and train you to be that additional adult in the life of one of these students.

What it’s all about:

Kids 'n Kinship is a 4-year-old, non-profit organization that matches children, who have a need for an additional supportive relationship with carefully screened adult volunteers. Volunteers spend a half-hour per week with the child at school during the school year – the time is based upon the volunteer’s availability and the child’s class schedule. During vacations and summer months, the mentor and child get together for enrichment activities such as museums or plays, hiking, biking, going to the library, sporting events, or hobbies. Volunteers make a one-year commitment.

Through their Mentor relationship the child will form a long-term friendship with a caring adult, receive positive attention and assistance with schoolwork and develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully functioning in school, in relationships and eventually on the job.

Mentors are able to model the importance of doing well in school, read, write or do math or science with the student and have fun getting to know a child and helping them feel connected and successful at school. The volunteer chooses the school and specific child, after information is presented.
