Man Rescued From Car Submerged In Eagan Pond Monday

When first responders arrived, a good Samaritan was already in the pond trying to see if the man was still in his car, officials said.

EAGAN, MN— Eagan police officers rescued a man from his car on Monday after it had driven off the road and into a pond near Byerly's.

Officials said the man had a medical emergency while driving, causing him to swerve off the roadway and into the pond.

Officials said that when first responders arrived, several bystanders flagged them down and showed them the location of the pond. A good Samaritan, later identified as city employee Bill Henk, was already in the water trying to see if the man was still in the car, officials said.

Officials said that all the car doors were locked and windows were rolled up. The driver was unresponsive and still in his seatbelt, and the car was pointed nose-down and filling with water, officials said.

First responders pushed the car closer to shore and broke the car window to open the door from the inside, officials said.
