Summit Orthopedics Opens Eagan Location
Summit Orthopedics has opened a new Eagan treatment facility and surgery center.

Summit Orthopedics has opened its newest comprehensive orthopedic treatment center at 2620 Eagan Woods Drive in Eagan, near the intersection of Pilot Knob Road and Highway 494. Just minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the 65,000-square foot facility aims to enhance Minnesota’s growing medical tourism industry while also providing local residents with a full continuum of orthopedic care.
Medical tourism is a growing industry worldwide. In fact, a 2009 Deloitte & Touche report estimated the global medical tourism market at $100 billion. In 2012, Patients Beyond Borders identified the United States as the third most popular healthcare destination worldwide. But all medical tourists needn’t come from overseas. Since opening its award-winning surgery center in Vadnais Heights in 2014, Summit has treated 60 advanced joint and spine patients from across the United States—that’s approximately three percent of all such patients treated at the facility.
“Minnesota has several positive attributes when it comes to medical tourism, including our worldwide reputation for quality healthcare, our lower healthcare costs, and the breadth of our advanced medical technology community,” said Adam Berry, Summit CEO. “Summit has built many relationships for those looking to come to Minnesota for advanced orthopedic care. We are excited to expand this reputation and capability.”

Supporting his assertion, Berry points to the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement that Summit’s Vadnais Heights Surgery Center recently earned—only the second ambulatory surgery center in the nation to receive such accreditation. He also notes that Summit contracts with health benefit management companies that allow patients to undergo major orthopedic procedures at its facilities at significantly reduced rates—often with no out-of-pocket costs to them, as well as its unique outpatient surgical facility and care suites that provide a 25 percent cost savings over a typical in-patient hospital stay in Minnesota and as much as a 60 percent savings over such a stay in much of the rest of the country.
“At Summit, patients receive the most advanced orthopedic care available, in the most patient-focused environment, and in a manner that brings down the total cost of healthcare for patients, employers and insurance companies,” Berry said.

Similar to Summit Orthopedics’ Vadnais Heights facility, the Eagan location is a one-stop, state-of-the-art center offering patients comprehensive orthopedic treatment that includes physician consultations, advanced imaging, therapy, bracing, orthotics, and a seven-day-a-week walk-in clinic. The facility also offers surgical care and overnight recovery in specialized care suites adjacent to the surgical facility for those undergoing advanced spine procedures and total joint replacements. In a concept still new to Minnesota and launched at Summit’s Vadnais Heights facility, the care suites, which will open in Eagan in March, offer personalized services, such as catered meals from local restaurants and one-on-one education and physical therapy, as well as hotel-level amenities, including Wi-Fi, lounge seating, and concierge services. In addition, the suites boast Secure Tracks, a post-surgery accelerated walking system exclusive to Summit Orthopedics that gets patients up and walking within hours of surgery.
The new Eagan facility, which opened earlier this month, provides care for a full range of musculoskeletal conditions, including ankle and foot care; back, neck and spine care; elbow care; hand and wrist care; hip care; knee care; and shoulder care. With the opening of this new full-service facility, Summit’s existing Eagan clinic and therapy locations have closed and all services have transferred to the new facility.
