Three Spring Cooking Classes You Shouldn't Miss!

From Atlantic salmon to Lebanese Baba Ganoush. Add to your cooking know-how with these courses from District 196's Community Ed program.

Flavorful Fish Dishes

WHEN: 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley.
WHAT:
Create delicious fish dishes using a few basic techniques. Make and taste a mixed greens and garden vegetable salad served with homemade creamy garlic dressing. Grill fresh tuna steaks with a Mediterranean style relish served with pasta tossed with garlic in olive oil. Moist, flaky Atlantic salmon is slow baked with oven dried tomatoes and dill butter sauce. Walleye Pike is lightly breaded and pan-fried to a crispy golden brown and served with homemade tartar sauce and mashed potatoes. Key lime pie topped with fresh whipped cream completes the menu. Demonstration and tasting. Taught by Jeff Sandino, founder of Flavors from the Home, Inc., an in-home cooking instruction and catering services, executive chef with the original Buca Di' Beppo and former executive sours chef with Figlio restaurant, Le Cafe Royal in L'Hotel Sofitel, and Sunsets on Wayzata Bay.

Lebanese Appetizers

WHEN: 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18, at Scott Highlands Middle School in Apple Valley.
WHAT:
Learn to prepare Hummus (chickpeas with tahini, lemon juice, salt and olive oil), Baba Ganoush (eggplant, tahini, lemon juice, salt and olive oil), Foule (fava beans, chickpeas, olive oil, garlic and lemon juice), Tabbouli (parsley, tomato, green onion, cracked wheat, olive oil, lemon juice and fresh mint leaves), Feta Cheese and Tomato (feta cheese, tomato, dried mint leaves and olive oil), Phyllo stuffed with Feta Cheese and Parsley. Enjoy Peta bread. Learn to prepare traditional appetizers in a participation class. Making appetizers is not as difficult as you think! Demonstration, hands-on and tasting. Taught by Farid Jean Sabongi, a native of Lebanon.

Beat the Heat Treats

WHEN: 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Scott Highlands Middle School in Apple Valley.
WHAT:
Beat the heat and make some cool treats and frosty drinks with your little one. Grab your apron and lets get cooking! Beat the Heat for parents with children ages 3-6.
