A Trip Back in Time: Iraq War Supporters and Protesters Gather in Stillwater
Stillwater Historian Donald Empson submitted these photos, along with some information, about groups who gathered at the Stillwater Lift Bridge to protest, and oppose those who protested, the Iraq War.
This week is the 10-year anniversary of the beginning of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq that eventually led to the capture, trial and execution of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Ten years later, Stillwater Historian Donald Empson submitted these photos, along with this information:
Through the fall and winter of 2003 a group of about 25 of us had an Iraq anti-war protest every Sunday at the Lift Bridge. As the war grew closer, a group of those opposed to our anti-war sentiments also appeared at the bridge. Notice Judge Rosalie Wahl in the anti-war protest group.

One day when we finished our protest, a car drove up and a familiar looking black man came over to us to encourage our protest. Turned out to be Julian Bond.
