All Minnesotans Asked To Turn Thermostat To 63 Degrees

"This step can help ensure that all of our customers continue to have gas service during this bitterly cold weather," Xcel Energy said.

TWIN CITIES, MN — As this week's record-setting cold weather continues, Xcel Energy is now asking all Minnesotans to help conserve natural gas. One way customers can help is by reducing their thermostat setting to 63 degrees through Thursday morning (9 a.m. or later), if possible.

"This step can help ensure that all of our customers continue to have gas service during this bitterly cold weather," the company said in a statement Wednesday.

The state's Department of Commerce is also urging Minnesotans to exercise caution in dealing with electricity outages or issues involving natural gas or delivered fuel. Find emergency tips here.
