Spring break is upon us.

For some spring break means beaches and family vacations. (and you should upload your vacation photos to this post, making your stay-behind neighbors jealous)

For others, well … as the Moms of Stillwater put it in a Facebook post today, it means:

“Spring Break? Let me just say it neither feels like "spring" nor "break" when you are camp counselor for 4 kids in your house for a week. I'll admit: I've been wading in some serious self-pity over here. No frequent flyer miles built up to send our crew to a tropical paradise. No drink umbrellas. No sunscreen scent.

Then the kids come home from school. With fevers and squirts. At least we aren't 30,000 miles up and headed for Disney?

FYI: I'm still buying drink umbrellas.”

If you are heading out on spring break, Lakeview Health has offered up the following travel tips:

  • If you haven’t already, visit an International Travel Clinic for immunization recommendations;
  • Use good insect repellent and protective clothing from disease-bearing insects;
  • Never go barefoot — even on the beach;
  • Don’t swim in rivers, lakes or even streams;
  • Drink bottled water if possible. It that’s not available, make sure the water is purified;
  • If you can’t wash and peel a fruit or vegetable, forget it;
  • Cooked food should be well done and hot;
  • Don’t eat from street vendors;
  • Be aware of safety in hotels and transportation. Always stay with a group.
