Driver Who Fatally Hit Stillwater Motorcyclist Was High On Meth

Brandon M. Lieffring of New Richmond was charged Tuesday with reckless homicide and several other felonies for his role in the accident.

ST. CROIX COUNTY, WIS. — A New Richmond man was high on methamphetamine when he fatally hit a Stillwater motorcyclist while attempting to flee police, according to reports. Now, Brandon M. Lieffring is facing a charge of first-degree reckless homicide for his role in the death of Dustin Kalland, 39.

According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on the 2000 block of Highway 64 in the Town of Star Prairie, Wis., on a report that Lieffring stole a 2013 Jeep Liberty.

Sheriff's officials said Lieffring had a "no-contact" order with the vehicle's owner, and should not have been on the property at the time he stole the Jeep. The Star-Tribune reported the vehicle belonged to Lieffring’s girlfriend.
