Guilty Plea Expected In Crash That Killed Pregnant Mom: Report

A single mother who was pregnant with her second child was killed in the Washington County crash in early 2016.

STILLWATER, MN — The driver involved in a crash that killed a pregnant mother in the east metro is expected to plead guilty. Drew Fleming faces a reckless driving charge in connection with the fatal collision that occurred in West Lakeland Township in February 2016.

Fleming, 22, of North Hudson will admit to the charge Monday, the Washington County Attorney’s Office tells the Star Tribune. However, authorities say Fleming wasn't on his phone during the crash as was originally suspected.

On Feb. 29, 2016, Fleming's Saab 9-3 Aero was traveling north on Highway 95 at 22nd Street North before the vehicle crossed the lanes of traffic into the southbound ditch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

As Patch previously reported, authorities said the Saab then hit an embankment, causing it to go airborne before crashing into a Ford Fusion sitting stationary at the intersection of 22nd Street North and Highway 95.

Hudson resident Megan Goeltz — who had turned 22 earlier that month — was killed. She was pregnant with her second child at the time.

According to a GoFundMe established for Goeltz, she was a single mother. Her daughter, Paisley, was 3 at the time of the fatal crash.

A group of Megan's friends are working to raise money for Paisley's education fund.
