High-Ranking Attorney For Washington County Resigns: Report

Citing "vitriol" and "partisan politics," the assistant Washington County attorney announced his resignation Monday.

STILLWATER, MN — Assistant Washington County Attorney Imran Ali abruptly resigned from his position on Monday, citing "vitriol" and "partisan politics," according to KARE 11.

KARE 11's Lou Raguse was the first to break the news and obtain Ali's resignation letter. Raguse notes that Ali's decision comes after protesters demanded that higher charges be filed against former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright.

Potter's case was initially being handled by the Washington County Attorney's Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest. The Washington County Attorney's Office charged Potter, 48, with second-degree manslaughter in Wright's death in April.
