Investigators Continue Search for Missing Hugo Man

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's continued assistance in checking their property, including outbuildings, stored vehicles or watercraft, covered pools.

Authorities continue to search for a missing elderly man who left his Hugo home on Sunday, and hasn't been seen since.

Radivoje "Ray" Novakovic was last seen on Sunday July 21 at about 7 p.m. near the Fable Hills bridge in Hugo. He was reported missing about three hours later.

Authorities immediately began an organized search for Novakovic, but he still has not been found. Now the Washington County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's continued assistance in checking their property.

"These checks should include any place that Mr. Novakovic might have sought shelter, such as outbuildings, stored vehicles or watercraft, covered pools, etc.," Washington County Commander Brian Mueller said. "We remind the public that Mr. Novakovic is an avid walker, sometimes reaching distances of up to 4 miles."

When Novakovic was last seen he was in good physical and mental health, Mueller said, which significantly increases the area that he could be located.

"Our concern for Mr. Novakovic's health increases as his time missing prolongs," Mueller said.

If people are aware of someone living in and around the area who might be unable to conduct a through search of their property on their own, Mueller asks that people help them or contact the Sheriff's Office for assistance.

On Monday afternoon, the sheriff's office received a tip that he was spotted in the northern White Bear Lake Township area, but authorities were unable to corroborate the information.

The sheriff's office continues to actively search for Novakovic, and is investigating all possible sightings and leads.

"Sheriff's investigators are assigned to this case and we are regularly meeting with the family as we filter any information coming into our office," Mueller said. "We have also sent out information information on a crime bulletin to law enforcement statewide as well as local businesses."
