Late-Season Storm Drops about 4 Inches of Snow in Stillwater, Hazardous Weather Outlook in Effect

Sun and temperatures in the mid-30s will grace the valley for the rest of the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, but a mixture of sleet and snow is expected to develop after midnight.

Unofficially, the Stillwater area saw about 4 inches of fresh snow Thursday morning—making for a tricky morning commute.

The winter storm came as a surprise to many, as weather reports only predicted about an inch of snow.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported slick driving conditions that resulted in several spinouts along the 94 corridor in the east metro this morning. No serious incidents were reported.

"A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND SNOW WILL DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT. LITTLE OR NO ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BE THE PRIMARY PRECIPITATION TYPE NORTH OF INTERSTATE 94. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON FRIDAY.

A LATE-SEASON WINTER STORM APPEARS LIKELY LATE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY NIGHT...WITH SNOW ACCUMULATIONS LIKELY IN THE OUTLOOK AREA. IN ADDITION...VERY STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE SYSTEM...WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW POSSIBLE."
