Oakdale Girl Accidentally Shot by Her Younger Sibling
Police at 6:33 p.m. were called to the 1800 block of Helena Road North and found the girl in an upstairs living room. The 9-year-old girl was transported to Regions Hospital.

A 9-year-old Oakdale girl was accidentally shot Friday, July 26.
The girl was shot in the chest by her 5-year-old sibling, according to the Oakdale Police Department.

Police at 6:33 p.m. were called to the 1800 block of Helena Road North and found the girl in an upstairs living room.
The girl was alert and spoke with officers at the scene before the Oakdale Fire Department transported her to Regions Hospital, where she remains in stable condition, according to the release, issued at about 9 p.m. Friday.

The case remains under investigation.
The girl was shot with a .22-caliber rifle, according to the Pioneer Press.
Oakdale police stressed the importance of safe storage of firearms, and the education and supervision of children.
"It sounds like there was some repair work, or work being done on weapons or items related to the weapons, giving access to the 5-year-old,” Oakdale Police spokeswoman Michelle Stark told the Star Tribune.Adults were present in the house, Stark told the paper.
