St. Croix River Flooding Shuts Down Highway 48

Barricades have been placed on both sides of the flooding area.

DULUTH, MN — Highway 48 is closed at the St. Croix River in Pine County due to rising water levels. The highway will remain closed until the water recedes and any damage is repaired.

There is no posted detour route.

MnDOT will post changeable message signs on northbound Interstate 35 just prior to the Highway 70 exit and on southbound I-35 just prior to the Highway 48 exit notifying motorists that its closed.

Barricades have been placed on both sides of the flooding area.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation wants to remind all motorists that driving through moving water is dangerous. And that it is unlawful to drive through areas where roads are barricaded. Vehicles can be swept away in only several inches of moving water.
