Stillwater Boaters: St. Croix River Headed For No-Wake Zone
The St. Croix River in Stillwater is predicted to exceed 683 feet early morning on May 24, thus enacting a no-wake zone.
STILLWATER, MN — The St. Croix River in Stillwater is predicted to exceed 683 feet early morning on May 24, thus enacting a no-wake zone from Taylors Falls to the Mississippi River in Prescott, Wisconsin. The river is expected to crest at 683.1 feet and remain above 683 feet through May 28, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The St. Croix River level predictions may change due to additional precipitation and extend the slow-no wake timeframe.
Marinas and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources public water accesses along the St. Croix River will be posted advising of the no-wake Zone. "Slow-no wake," means the operation of a watercraft at the slowest possible speed necessary to maintain steerage, and in no case greater than five miles per hour, according to a news release.

The no wake zone protects boaters from flood related hazards such as floating debris and river currents. The no wake zone also helps minimize damage to shorelines, levees, and islands which are more vulnerable to damage from wakes during high water events. Boaters should check the DNR website.
