Summer Construction: Expect More Delays on Highway 36 in Lake Elmo

DeMontreville Trail North in Lake Elmo will close at Highway 36 at 6 a.m. Monday, June 24 while crews complete the reduced-conflict intersection (J-turn) construction.

Motorists using Highway 36 can expect more delays this weekend, as summer road construction continues.

Motorists will encounter delays when both directions of Highway 36 are reduced to a single lane between I-694 and Demontreville Trail at 4 a.m. Saturday, June 22, a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation states.

The lane closures are necessary as crews install pipe under Highway 36 as part of the Highway 36/Hilton Trail reconstruction project.

Crews will work on one side of the roadway at a time. All eastbound and westbound traffic will utilize one side of the road in a single lane in each direction while crews work on the opposite side.

Additionally, Highway 36 motorists will not be able to make left turns in or out of Hilton Trial and Viking Drive during this closure.

All lanes will re-open by noon, Sunday, June 23, weather permitting.

Then, starting at 6 a.m. Monday, June 24, DeMontreville Trail North in Lake Elmo will close at Highway 36 while crews complete the reduced-conflict intersection (J-turn) construction, according to MnDOT.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour of Highland Trail. Weather permitting, the roadwork is scheduled to be complete by 6 a.m. Monday, July 1.

When the project is completed in fall 2013, MnDOT says the $13.8 million reconstruction project “will improve safety and traffic flow on Highway 36, Hilton Trail, Highlands Trail and Demontreville Trail while reducing the amount of through traffic cutting through residential areas.”
