World War II Veteran Talks about D-Day

Video: World War II veteran Milton Guion, 88, of May Township speaks about what it was like when he landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944.

A ceremony recognizing local veterans and the transfer of a Stillwater artist's artwork from the American Legion Post 48 and Washington County Historical Society to the Minnesota National Guard was held Thursday at the Stillwater Armory.

"Jo Lutz Rollins captured military history in her artwork and it is appropriate that some of her artwork be displayed in our facility," said Army Brig. Gen. William J. Lieder, Minnesota National Guard's Director of Joint Staff.

"It is fitting to observe our history and recognize veterans on this anniversary of D-Day, particularly those who served during World War II," Lieder said. "Working together with the American Legion and Washington County Historical Society demonstrates the community's support and commitment to our military Service members and their families."

"Rollins depicted service members from World War I to the Vietnam War eras," said Lieder.  "This ceremony also pays tribute to an artist who honored our military members in an unforgettable way."
