Is New Sam's Club Kiosk a Gimmick or a Boon for Healthcare?

The St. Louis Park Sam's Club has a new kiosk offering a slate of tests shoppers can use to measure their vital statistics. However, according to the Star Tribune, it's not exactly clear whether or not these devices are actually effective in improving users' health.

Users can examine everything from their eyes to their blood pressure at these arcade game-like devices.

Doctors interviewed by the newspaper said the machines could be a great opportunity to address the nation's preventative care deficit—critical in reducing healthcare costs and improving people's lives. Without helping build relationships between doctors and customers, however, installing the devices could wind up being nothing more than an advertising gimmick.
