St. Louis Park Honors Volunteers And Board/Commission Members

Assisting the nature center with trail and maintenance projects, programming, receptionist coverage, animal care and event support.

At the April 19 city council meeting, Mayor Jake Spano read a proclamation honoring the tireless work of city volunteers and board/commission members. Despite 2020 being an unprecedented year, volunteers continued to contribute to the community in a safe manner. Last year, volunteers contributed in the following ways:

  • Assisting the nature center with trail and maintenance projects, programming, receptionist coverage, animal care and event support
  • Adopting 97 hydrants through the Hydrant Hero program, keeping them clear of snow in the winter and plant overgrowth in the summer
  • Tending to more than 40 parks and public spaces and 24 gardens on a regular basis
  • Painting fire hydrants – now on its fifth year.
  • Supporting community events
  • Providing recommendations on grant approval and review of other health and wellbeing initiatives through the Health in the Park program
  • Serving on 12 different boards and commissions
