St. Louis Park Lawmakers Eye 20 MPH Speed Limit

Last year, Minneapolis and St. Paul lowered their speed limits to 20 mph for local residential streets.

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — Lawmakers in St. Louis Park are considering lowering the city's speed limit to 20 MPH on some roads, following a recent trend in the metro.

Last year, Minneapolis and St. Paul lowered their speed limits to 20 mph for local residential streets; 25 mph for larger, arterial city-owned streets; and 30-plus mph for a few city-owned streets.

"We believe our data support lower speed limits on city streets," Deb Heiser, the St. Louis Park city engineering director, told the Star Tribune. "Ultimately, slower is safer."
