What's New at Parktacular This Year? A Lot
From a revamped block party to new rides and attractions, there are plenty of great things to check out at the city's summer celebration.

Some festivals do the same-old things every year, and people come back simply because there isn't anything better to do.
Parktacular isn't that way. The annual summer celebration in St. Louis Park has its mainstays (hello, parade), but also will offer plenty of new things this year. A sampling:

Block Party Now on Friday
In years past, the had been on Saturday night, after the parade and the rest of the day's festivities. Well, this year it will be more a kickoff event, as it has moved to Friday. Also new is the location this year—the . Staying the same? Boogie Wonderland will still bring the funk.
Dad Dash 5K Fun/Run Walk
A brand new event, which will start Saturday morning at 8:20. $20 in advance, $25 day of run, $5 Youth Almost-A-Mile.Â

Longer Hours for Water Slides and Inflatables
There will be new attractions to check out, plus the hours have been expanded to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $15 unlimited wristband or $1 per ticket. One free, two-ticket ride with a Parktacular Button.
Kidtacular
The kids' events at Parktacular have been rebranded and improved. In addition to the water slides and inflatables, look for pony rides, a petting zoo and more.
New Acts at the Amphitheater
Several new groups will be performing at the this year, including Our Town: Beats & Streets with Batucada do Norte, and Rock Camp for Dads showcasing its student band, Mind the Gap. Hours are longer this year, too, with shows running Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and then again from 7-10 p.m. when Beatles cover band .
The Teen Tent
A new space designated just for teenagers, the Teen Tent will feature a DJ, games and cool prizes. Free ice cream treat with Parktacular Button (one per button wearer).
New Food
Cannolis, gelato, and flavored water from Nonna Rosa's will join the lineup this year, as will mozzarella sticks, burgers and fries from Toner Des Concessions. Plus, food will be on sale longer this year (until 10 p.m. Saturday).
