2-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Dunbarton: Watch

DUNBARTON, NH — Capital region firefighters were sent to Jean Drive in Dunbarton for a house fire on Tuesday.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. with "multiple calls" from witnesses reporting "heavy smoke" showing from the single-family home. Capital region dispatch sent Bow, Dunbarton, and Concord firefighters first. Dispatch said the residents of the home had already self-evacuated and were in a safe area.

A few minutes later, Dunbarton fire command called for a second alarm after reporting "heavy fire showing" from the multi-story wood-frame home.

Dispatch sent tankers and engines from Bow, Hopkinton, Goffstown, and Weare. Firefighters from Henniker, Pembroke, and Warner would also arrive later while Henniker and others also provided mutual aid to the town.

Command checked the patients and said they were fine. They were also able to disconnect a propane tank at the home, he said.

About 15 minutes into the firefighting, teams moved into "defensive operations," hitting the exterior flames to prevent an extension of the fire. Later though, flames spread to the back of the home, igniting brush around the house.

Firefighters were able to tap a fire pond nearby for water. They also extended lines to Stark Highway, not far from the home.

The tankers were released from the fire scene just after 7 p.m. with other firefighters continuing to work the fire.
