2 Concord Firefighters Injured During Apartment Building Blaze

A fire at Building 2 of the Pinewood Village Apartments on Bog Road went to two alarms on Monday, destroying 24 units of housing.

CONCORD, NH — Two Concord firefighters were injured, one with second-degree burns, during an apartment building fire on Bog Road on Monday.

Around 11:30 p.m., firefighters received multiple calls and were sent to the Pinewood Village Apartments for a fire at Building 2, a 24-unit structure. When they arrived, they found fire coming from the second and third floors as well as the attic.

"Companies quickly went to work to evacuate the remaining occupants of the building and attack the fire," Chief Sean Brown said. "Several pets were rescued by firefighters."

A second alarm was rung which brought firefighters and EMTs from Boscawen, Bow, Chichester, Franklin, Loudon, Pembroke, and the Penacook Ambulance to assist at the fire as well as cover the city.

One apartment dweller was taken to Concord Hospital for smoke inhalation. One firefighter received second-degree burns during the incident while another injured a knee.

"Due to the amount of damage to the building, none of the units were able to be reoccupied," Brown said. "The fire remains under investigation at this time, but does not appear to be related to any other recent fires in the city."

An arsonist, Brendan Mcewen, was arrested last week on another arson charge, accused of setting a fire at another Bog Road apartment building, The Pines of West Concord, 11 days ago, not far from this fire.

Brown said Concord fire and rescue teams were already having a busy shift before the fire. They were called to 37 other incidents, including 20 EMT calls, nine outside fires, one crash, and numerous alarm activations on Monday.
