Annual Concord VNA Hospice Lights Of Life Memorial Held Virtually

Watch: The program, in its 25th year, commemorates with lights in and around the greater Concord area and virtual memorial service, too.

CONCORD, NH — Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, one of the largest home health and hospice providers in New Hampshire, is holding its 25th Lights of Life hospice commemoration virtually.

Normally, the event is held in Downtown Concord. But this year, due to coronavirus, the organization put together a video program. But the most important part, the lights in building windows and the honor roll list, remains the same.

Annually, hospice serves more than 900 patients in 44 communities. During the fall, the Concord VNA prepares for the annual event by adding names to the Lights of Life Honor Roll.

In December, Concord and capital region businesses then display lights in windows — this year, more than 1,300 candles are being displayed at 144 businesses, to honor those lost during the last year.

A fundraising effort is also held by the org. In 2020, nearly $69,000 was raised from the 2,500 names on the honor roll.

"Our hospice team provides excellent care, comfort, guidance and support for patients and their families during what can be an extremely challenging and emotional time in their lives," Beth Slepian, the president and CEO of Concord Regional VNA, said. "We extend our gratitude to the individuals and businesses who have contributed to our Lights of Life campaign over the years, and welcome community members to join us in honoring and remembering loved ones by viewing our Community Memorial Service online."
