Best States To Have A Baby: NH Ranked No. 4

New Hampshire was ranked high on the 2018 "Best & Worst States to Have a Baby" survey by WalletHub. Vermont was No. 1.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire — and New England as a whole — is one of the very best places in the country to have a baby. That's according to the 2018 "Best & Worst States to Have a Baby" survey released this week by personal finance service WalletHub. New Hampshire was ranked No. 4 and all six New England states were ranked in the top 20. Vermont was ranked No. 1.

The survey's authors wrote the average cost of having a baby is more than $10,000.

"You can expect a lot of extra expenses," the authors wrote. "Between one-time costs such as a crib and stroller and ongoing ones including diapers and formula, it’s easy to go over budget."

They added, "Expenses can vary significantly, considering the wide disparities in cost of living. They can also differ from one pregnancy to another, given that some women experience delivery complications. But there’s more to think about than just cost. Some states provide better quality health care service and better environments in which to care for children."
