Blustery Winds Knock Out Power To Nearly 28,000 In New Hampshire

Update: Power is out across the state due to gusty wind — with bursts of up to 55 mph expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon.

CONCORD, NH — Gusty winds around New Hampshire overnight have knocked out power to nearly 28,000 utility customers around the state.

The heavy, northwest wind started on Monday evening and continued overnight. Most of the wind was between 20 and 30 mph but gusts were expected to be as high as 55 mph. The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect until 4 p.m. Trees were reported down on power lines all around the state.

As of 2:30 p.m., the state's four utility companies were reporting more than 28,000 customers without power.

Eversource, New Hampshire's largest utility company, was reporting around 17,000 customers without power including more than 1,200 in Portsmouth, 836 in Amherst, 660 in Dunbarton, close to 500 in North Hampton, more than 330 in Hopkinton, about 300 in Merrimack, 230 in Milford, and less than 200 in Nashua. There are also smaller outages in Londonderry, Windham, and Bedford.

Unitil is reporting nearly 3,000 customers without power including more than 2,000 in Hampton and nearly 500 in Canterbury and 134 in Plaistow. Less than 100 customers are without power in several communities in both the capital region and the Seacoast.

The New Hampshire Electric Coop has about 7,500 customers without power including nearly 3,000 in Alton and smaller outages around the Lakes Region and North Country.

Liberty Utilities is reporting 2 customers without power — one in Salem and one in Pelham.
