Mother's Day Musical Magic

Scratching your head about what to get for mother?

This time of year, in particular, Concord residents have a wealth of musical opportunities available to them. The Granite State Symphony, The Concord Chorale, The Suncook Valley Chorale have performances not to mention dance and music school offerings.

On Mother’s Day, a celebrated duo that has graced the small screen since 1969 as well as packing hundreds of theatres around the world, make their first stop in the Capital City since sold-out concerts here in 2006 and 2007.

Guy & Ralna from “The Lawrence Welk Show” came to immediate fame on Welk’s popular series when they joined it as a young couple in their 20s. The impact they made was instantaneous and within months they were receiving more fan mail than anyone else in the show’s history.

Their program in Concord will include some of the songs they sang on the long-running musical television series, which continues to be a formidable hit, in re-runs, on Public Television. They’ll also sing a plethora of songs from the 1940s through the 1980s.  There will be something for just about every kind of musical taste including a bit of country and even some gospel.

They’ll be supported by members of the Granite State Symphony Orchestra.

You certainly don’t have to be a fan of Welk’s brand of Champagne Music to appreciate the musicianship of Guy & Ralna. Their credentials are genuine and their vocal skills are still the admiration of many in the music world.

In interviews, Guy & Ralna still talk about Concord, New Hampshire and the autograph line that greeted them after one of their previous appearances. They happily signed CD’s, which will again be available, for nearly three hours and left a lot of locals with very special memories.

If you’re at a loss as to what to get for that special “Mother” in your life this year, why not take her to Concord’s beautiful Capitol Center for the Arts on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
