Bristol Man Killed After Being Hit By A Vehicle On Interstate 93

State police: Ernest Duncan, 80, stopped to remove an obstruction on the highway when he was struck; 2 other drivers were injured Wednesday.

SANBORNTON, NH ? A good Samaritan attempting to remove an obstruction from the middle of a New Hampshire Interstate was killed on Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle.

Ernest Duncan, 80, of Bristol, stopped on Interstate 93 south to remove an obstruction in the middle of the highway near Mile Marker 63.6. He exited his 2004 GMC pickup truck, which was parked on the left-hand side of the highway, and was then struck by another vehicle, a 2017 Nissan, Amber Lagace, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire State Police, said.

Duncan was instantly killed.

A 2017 Ford then struck the Nissan. Both drivers of those vehicles were taken to Franklin Hospital to be evaluated, she said.

Troop D troopers requested the department?s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit to examine the crash. The southbound side of the highway was closed for several hours during the roadside investigation.

Other troopers from Troop E and Troop F assisted Troop D troopers. Others who assisted included officers from the New Hampton, Sanbornton, and Bristol police departments, teams from Sanbornton and New Hampton fire and rescue, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation-New Hampton shed.

All aspects of this crash remain under investigation, she said.
