Concord Dance Academy presents "The Show Must Go On!"

The Capital Center for the Arts will once again host CDA's Annual Recital!

Forty Years... turning 40 is a major milestone for "young" adults. For me 40 years is when I had Molly, it is the amount of time that has passed since my high school graduation and being the first NH high school girl break 5 minutes in the mile. But these facts have nothing to do with Cindy Flanagan and Concord Dance Academy. When I was busy doing all of the above mentioned things Cindy was opening a dance school. Forty years and thousands of dancers later she is a staple in the dance world. She is legend.

In 1995 the CCANH was in disrepair. Closed and looking for direction the theater was close to becoming another Concord building lost. Cindy Flanagan was an instrumental part in the community initiatives and actions that saved, revamped and reopened this gem. Her love for this place is not lost of the hundreds of people she brings to it each year. It is legend.

Seventeen years ago my daughter Gracie danced in her first recital. I was amazed at the fluidity with which all of these tiny dancers were put on stage and then returned to their parents. Her shows are professional. They are clean and quick. They are legend.

This Saturday the Capital Center for the Arts will host it's first recital since the pandemic shuttered these activities. Miss Cindy will be there back stage, headset on, hand written lighting and stage notes in hand directing her 40th recital. The staff at CCANH will support her and effect a fluid show. Carl Smith will navigate sound and a professional show will take place. This process is legend.

When she started Concord Dance Academy Cindy Flanagan was thirty years old. Another milestone age for people, especially women (in my opinion). She is 70 now, and while 70 is the new 50 in many ways. it is still seven decades of life. Along with the first year 3 year old dancers who will perform on Saturday, Miss Cindy will too. Seventy year old Miss Cindy, who looks no different to me than the 53 year old Miss Cindy who led Gracie's first dance class will tie her taps shoes and show us what it's all about. Her dancing is legend.

While in person tickets are sold out, this phenomenal show will be livestreamed. What does this have to do with you, the reader of this narrative? If you have ever been a part of this magnificent place, experienced the good and the bad of the dance world, performed on stage as a CDA dancer, or come to the many Holiday Shows CDA has put on, then this is a show for you. In a time when life is a struggle for so many, a few hours of pure entertainment is in order. Supporting two entertainment staples of our community and watching the love of dance and stage is a nice side effect. The first weekend in June will always be recital weekend. It is legend.
