Concord Rec Discusses White Park Playground Changes Thursday

CONCORD, NH — The city is hosting a public hearing to discuss a new Monkey Around Playground to be constructed at White Park in Concord. The meeting, co-hosted by the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee Review, will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the community center on Canterbury Road. During the meeting, the general public can comment on a new design of the playground, put together by Playgrounds by Leathers last year — with input from children around the city.

Playgrounds by Leathers was the original company that designed the current playground in the mid-1990s. That playground was only supposed to last about two decades, with proper maintenance, but is now in its 26th year.

After an assessment in 2015, which found it needing about $200,000 in repairs, a decision was made to construct a new one which will cost nearly the same amount of money, according to officials.

During the next few months, officials will confirm cost estimates and review the finalized plans before bringing the proposal before the Concord City Council. After the council approves the plan, the Friends of White Park will begin fundraising for the new playground — with an expected opening for the summer of 2021.
