Dead Moose Shuts Down I-93 in Concord
A dead moose shut down part of I-93 in Concord on Thursday.
CONCORD, NH - A dead moose shut down part of I-93 in Concord on Thursday. According to the Concord Monitor, the moose was reported before 6 a.m. on Thursday, as it lay dead south of Exit 14 in Concord.
According to state Department of Transportation notification logs, the moose was judged to be out of the way of traffic but was too big to be hauled off without a front-end loader, which would require closing the left-hand northbound lane.
The original plan was to remove it after evening rush hour but “it was decided to remove it sooner rather than later because it was creating issues with motorists slowing down to look at it,” said DOT spokesman Bill Boynton.

The moose was removed about 1:30 p.m. Its carcass will be buried in a rural area or given to a local farmer, as is often the case with roadkill, Walsh said.
