Former Concord Substitute Teacher Charged With Felonious Sexual Assault In Boscawen And Northfield

Nicholas Joslin of Belmont faces sexual assault, position of authority, and other charges after incidents in May 2024 and May 2025.

CONCORD, NH — A substitute teacher, who worked for seven days at three schools in the Concord School District for the 2025-2026 school year, has been arrested on sexual assault charges in two other communities.

Nicholas Joslin, 42, of Farrarville Road in Belmont, was arrested on Monday, accused of two counts of felonious sexual assault — victim under 13 and sexual contact-school employee, filed as a position of authority, endangering the welfare of a child, and simple assault charges in Boscawen and one felony count of felonious sexual assault sexual contact-school employee in Northfield.

Limited information is available about the cases, but according to court paperwork, the Boscawen case involved a teenage girl who was a student with an age difference between Joslin and the child of more than five years on May 20, 2024. It is unknown if the sexual assault or assaults occurred at a school, but Joslin was accused of being “an employee of the primary educational institution where (the victim) was a student.” Joslin was also accused of placing his hand on the girl’s thigh.

Joslin was arraigned by video in Franklin District Court on Wednesday. He offered no plea to the school employee charge and a not guilty plea to the simple assault charge. According to a court filing, after a disposition hearing was held, the victim under 13 and child endangerment charges were nolle prossed.

The Northfield charge involved an incident on May 24 of this year. He offered no plea to the charge.

Joslin was at the hospital at the time of his arraignment, released on bail, and placed in Merrimack County pretrial services, according to Merrimack County Jail Superintendent Garrett Jewel.

A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 1 in both cases.

According to Timothy Herbert, the interim superintendent of schools in Concord, Joslin was an on-call substitute teacher for the district at Concord High School, Rundlett Middle School, and Abbot-Downing Elementary School. He worked for seven days this fall. The felonious sexual assault of a minor incidents did not happen at a Concord school, Herbert said.

The district, Herbert added, had limited information about the incident but was notified by the Merrimack County Attorney’s Office about the arrest. However, he said, “We feel it is important to share what we know.” Herbert noted all proper hiring protocols were followed, and Joslin’s background was checked and fully vetted.

“(He) has been removed from the sub roster,” he told district parents in an email on Thursday.

After hearing from the county attorney’s office, Herbert said the district notified the New Hampshire Department of Education. School board members were also told about the situation.

Joslin was not credentialed by the state, according to its online portal.

“Our school crisis teams have been notified and will provide any support to students and staff,” Herbert said. “The district will cooperate with authorities.”

Herbert added, “It is hard to understand why someone acts in this manner, especially towards a child. If students have questions or concerns, please encourage them to speak to their school counselor or a trusted adult at the school.”

Patch has also reached out to Randy Wormald, the superintendent of the Merrimack Valley School District, and Shannon Barlett, the senior education official of the Winnisquam Regional, Northfield, Sanbornton, and Tilton school district, about the charges against Joslin, since the incidents occured in their school administrative units.
