Gov. Sununu Will Kick Off NH Maple Sugaring Season
Maple Ridge Sugar House to host the annual gubernatorial maple tree tapping on Feb. 28.

CONCORD, NH — Gov. Chris Sununu, R-NH, will mark the beginning of the New Hampshire maple sugaring season on Feb. 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Maple Ridge Sugar House in Loudon, according to a press release by the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association (NHMPA). The tradition of the governor tapping the first tree has been in place for almost 50 years, and started with Gov. Melvin Thompson, according to the release.
The season runs through April, and 150,000 gallons are produced within New Hampshire during this time.
In addition to hosting the tree-tapping ceremony, Maple Ridge Sugar House will be providing extended tours of the sugar bush.

"We always recommend to bring boots since it can be a little messy and muddy in the woods," said Miranda Milano, who represents one of the three generations that owns and operates Maple Ridge Sugar House.
