Although we're barely in the middle of November, there are definitely signs, locally, that the Holiday Season isn't too far away.
Already, many of our downtown merchants have begun to festively decorate their windows with an array of lights, tinsel and reminders of our need to begin pondering what to buy that special someone.
I'll bite my tongue and say as little as possible about the drab Holiday banners that hang listlessly from our lampposts assuring Concord, once again, the dubious distinction of being the only state capital in the USA without holiday lights on light poles.
It's the time of the year in which to adopt a kinder and more loving attitude and to put politics and personal agendas aside. It really does work.
This week on "Downtown Dialogues", Dick Patten dropped by WKXL to talk with me about the upcoming holiday events happening in Concord in the next 2 weeks.
For more than 40 years, Dick has volunteered thousands of hours to make possible a Holiday Parade for everyone to enjoy and the Tree Lighting Ceremony on the State House Plaza. He does this so that everyone can pause and bask in the warm and genial good humor that is one of the nicer parts of the holidays.
The Holiday Parade is schedule for Saturday, November 23rd at 9:30 AM up on Loudon Road from Hazen Drive to the Steeplegate Mall.
The Tree Lighting gets underway about 3:30 PM on the day after Thanksgiving, November 29th, with lots of family fun leading up to the official lighting ceremony.
Both events are free and guaranteed to put even the most dour person into a good frame of mind.
Here's a link to our chat on WKXL with all the details about these events.
