To those of us of a certain age, and I would include myself in that category, the immediate image that springs forward in our mind when we hear the word "Woman's Club" is a somewhat limiting image.
For most of my life I have certainly been aware of the Woman's Club of Concord, although I had no idea they'd been an integral part of our community for about 125 years.
I did not, however, really know what went on inside the confines of their local headquarters since 1919, the Chamberlain House located at 44 Pleasant Street.
Its a beautiful building and in my younger days, I played the piano at many a piano recital held at the stately edifice. I also recall an amazing punch concoction they created for those recitals, a recipe I have sought for years without success.
The other day Mia McGhee the current President of the Woman's Club of Concord and a familiar name to Patch readers, dropped by WKXL to chat with me on "Downtown Dialogues". With her was Carole Palmer-Zumbrunnen, the Co-Head of their Scholarship Committee and the Liaison for the General Federation of Woman's Clubs. It was an eye-popping experience for me to learn all about the venerable organization which is more active and involved in our Community than ever.
They've been doing some pretty amazing things to enhance and help our City - everything from helping beautify White Park to providing scholarships, helping to feed and clothe local women and children, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a link to their website where you can find out all about them and how to join:

You can also find out about their upcoming New Year's Event at the Grappone Conference Center as well as their "First Friday Social" on January 3rd. They are certainly worth checking out.If you'd like to listen to the spirited, informative and fun chat I had with Mia and Carole, please click on the link below:
