Officer-Involved Shooting Death Reported In Pittsfield

CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Pittsfield on Monday.

Police and firefighters in Pittsfield were sent to Lyford Hill Road for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, around 7 p.m. police called in the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit, which is a regional SWAT Team, for assistance, according to Kate Giaquinto, the director of communications for the attorney general's office.

An armed man refused to leave the residence or submit to arrest, she said.

During the next 10 hours, a standoff ensued and ended with gunfire between the man, Anthony Hannon, 52, of Pittsfield, and police. During the incident, Hannon was killed.

An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday to determine his cause of death.

"No law enforcement officers or other private citizens were physically injured during the incident," Giaquinto said. "Pursuant to protocol, the name of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews. The involved officers did not have body or cruiser cameras."

Hannon, according to superior court records, was accused of three aggravated felonious sexual assault charges in January 2013, after an incident in Nashua. A year later, the charges were nolle prossed. In April 2018, he was accused of six counts of felony drug possession and felonious use of a firearm. Two months later, those charges were also dropped.
