One Person Dies In Northwood House Fire
Watch: Fire consumed a home on First NH Turnpike on Thursday where a person was trapped; 1 firefighter was injured during a rescue attempt.
NORTHWOOD, NH — State officials are investigating the death of a person during a fire in Northwood on Thursday, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Around 8:40 p.m., firefighters from Northwood, Candia, Epsom, and other communities were called a home on the First New Hampshire Turnpike for a report of a fire. When crews arrived, they found a “heavily involved” fire and attempted to locate residents inside the home. One person was reportedly trapped on the second floor, according to Deputy State Fire Keith Rodenhiser.
“Despite their valiant efforts, the victim was unable to be located,” he said. “One firefighter suffered non-life-threatening burn injuries in the rescue attempt.”

The department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Northwood police and fire departments. Positive identification of the victim along with the cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy that will be conducted by the state Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday, Rodenhiser said.
