The year 2014 has begun and many of us begin contemplating the resolutions we want to make for the year just started. No doubt some will stick while others, despite the best of intentions, will wither on the vine.
Doris Day, the actress, singers and animal activist once told me that you can never get old if you continue to expand your horizons and try new and different things. "Don't allow yourself to settle into a rut, no matter how comfortable it may seem..." she advised.
How can you argue with advice from Doris Day??
Looking back on 2013, I did indeed heed that advice and tackled some new projects with varying degrees of success but very grateful to have tried new avenues.
I taught four classes for Granite State College's OLLI Program and have scheduled three more for this spring.
I began doing a radio show, twice a week, for WKXL, which seemed a natural extension of the blogs I have written and continue to write for Patch, about my feelings and love for our community. I decided years ago that you can "live" in a City and never really "live", instead just going through the motions like some kind of "Stepford Resident".
The program entitled, "Downtown Dialogues" has allowed me the chance to show why I believe Concord is a rich and diverse community filled with wonderful businesses, great activities and people who are interesting, unique and fascinating.
This past year I spoke with politicians, business owners, music personalities, writers, journalists, and people who give of their heart and soul to make this world a better place for all of us, without any agenda except to make a difference.
Two such individuals stopped by for my last show of 2013 - Tony Schinella and Jessica Fogg.
In less than 3 years Tony, as Editor of Concord Patch, has helped reshape the way we get our news in addition to encouraging dialogue and discussion in a civil but direct manner.
Jessica has her pulse on the community and is forever stepping in to help where there is a need or take the reins of a project and see it through to a happy conclusion. She believes in the future of Concord and is playing an important role in making it happen.
Listen in to our funny, insightful and very interesting chat about some of the news stories from 2013 and what will be happening in 2014.
