City crews descended on Rollins Park in Concord this week to start reforestation efforts.

CONCORD, NH - City crews descended on Rollins Park this week to start reforestation efforts.

According to the Concord Newsletter, Millican’s Nursery delivered 46 trees of differing size and quantity, along with 44 shrubs of differing varieties to Rollins Park on Monday.

Staff members from parks, cemeteries, and the tree crew of the General Services Department are helping with the planting, which are expected to continue through the week.

Last week, Beth Fenstermacher, Assistant City Planner, and Chris Jacques, Grounds Supervisor, placed markers where each tree and shrub will be planted.

Fenstermacher said she chose each tree and shrub for its differing value to the new “forest.”

"For example, some were chosen for their brilliant fall color, some for the fruit they will produce (which the animals will appreciate). Some have interesting bark, leaves or other unique qualities which add variety and texture to the new planting," the newsletter read.
