St. John Regional School educator named an “Outstanding Teacher”
Donna Collins has been recognized as an Outstanding Teacher in the NH Catholic School system.

St. John Regional School is proud to announce that Donna Collins was nominated for the New Hampshire Catholic School Teacher of the Year award and has been recognized as an Outstanding Teacher in the New Hampshire Catholic School system. Collins is a Junior High science teacher at St. John. She has been teaching since 1993, and entered the Catholic School system in 2012.
Collins works daily with students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades - focusing on Earth/Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. Her students use hands-on activities, research and experiments to explore the world around them. Her classes complete annual Science Fair projects, which are presented to the school community as a whole.
Collins also runs the school’s Weekly Technology Club. This is a place where students can explore computer programming, use microprocessors, invent games, and take apart broken appliances to see how they work. She has also helped the Club’s students put together a VEX robot and a SeaPerch underwater robot.

“I like my students to concentrate on the ‘how’ and ‘why,” Collins says. “Science is fun for everyone because there are so many things to explore - plants, animals, atmosphere, microscopes - the list is never ending. I love when my students find something that makes them become a scientist. Teaching at St. John is rewarding to me because I can practice my faith and include Catholic teachings in the science curriculum.”
Collins earned an Associate of Applied Science in Forest Technology from the University of New Hampshire. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern New Hampshire University, and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. She is proficient in American Sign Language, and a present member of the National Association of the Deaf. Collins resides in Goffstown with her husband and two greyhound dogs. They are parishioners at St. Marie’s Parish in Manchester.
