St. John Teacher is a Finalist for Teacher of Year Award

Tara Henley Among Three Educators Up for NH Catholic Schools Teacher of the Year

Concord, N.H. - Tara Henley, a math teacher at St. John Regional School in Concord, is a finalist for the New Hampshire Catholic Schools Teacher of the Year award. Henley is in her 16th year of teaching, and has spent the past five years in the Catholic school system, instructing students in grades 6-8 at St. John.

Henley, a self described “math nerd”, has spent her career helping middle grade students learn to love the subject as much as she does. Henley goes above and beyond at St. John, serving as an advisor to the school’s Math Team and Junior Math Team. She also works with teachers at Bishop Brady High School to ensure that the St. John algebra curriculum sets students up for success as they transition to ninth grade. Her weekly after school tutoring sessions help her students become more confident in their math skills.

“I wasn’t always good at math,” says Henley. “I actually hated math in elementary school. I never truly understood it, and could not figure out how it all worked. But when I got to middle school, I had a teacher who opened my eyes to the beauty of mathematics. I am thrilled that I am now that teacher for my students. Being recognized as a finalist for this award is humbling and I share it with every student I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.”

She lives with her husband and two children in Penacook. Prior to teaching at St. John, she worked at David R. Cawley Middle School in Hooksett, and was a long-term substitute at St. Joseph Regional School in Keene.

The New Hampshire Catholic Schools Teacher of the Year will be announced in a virtual ceremony on Friday, June 4th at 3:00 p.m. All Catholic schools throughout the Diocese will be watching live in anticipation of the announcement of the winner.
