Talkin' with Tim!

There are a great many pluses about doing my radio show, "Downtown Dialogues" on WKXL.

In the past 7 months or more, I've had the opportunity to discover things I never knew about Concord even though I've made it a habit to find out everything I can about our city and have spent a lifetime absorbing every aspect of what makes our community so unique. I have also had the chance to invite, as guests, some of the names I've admired, respected or heard about but never had the privilege of meeting.

That was the case this week when Concord Monitor columnist Tim O' Shea dropped by the Redington Road studio to chat with me. By the end of our 40 minutes on the air it was clear he would need to be a return guest.

For those not familiar with Tim, he writes a monthly column for the Monitor entitled, "One Man's Plan" and it is always entertaining, enlightening, and one of the highpoints in the paper.

Tim is always game to try something different and his pieces send him on a journey to virtually every mini golf site in New Hampshire, to his own experiences with a cleanse that he swears has changed his eating habits and given him more energy.  That's barely the tip of the iceberg as he has written scores of similarly mesmerizing stories and he shared some of his favorites with me on the air.

Several years ago Tim compiled a collection of essays into a book entitled, "Don't Think Less of Me", which I ordered immediately after finishing our segment of the show and have read in three sittings. It's available at Concord's own Gibson's Bookstore as well as via amazon.com. Tim is also planning a follow-up book in the near future and I would love to see his Monitor pieces available for reading and re-reading.
