Time to stop whispering about mental illness!

When I was growing up in Concord, it was rare for anyone to talk about the thousands of people who were living at the New Hampshire State Hospital. It was one of those topics that was taboo which led to all kinds of misinformation being shared about mental illness and the impact it has on not only those battling the problem but those family members and friends who surround the person.

Last week Ken Norton, the Executive Director of NAMI NH, stopped by WKXL to chat with me on "Downtown Dialogues".

We discussed the very important work that NAMI NH is doing with regard to support, education and advocacy from their offices on North State Street in Concord.

They work tirelessly to change the mistaken perceptions that exist to this day with respect to mental illness.

Mental illness can no longer be kept in the shadows and whispered about.  It impacts upon all of us.
