GRAY, ME — Regardless of which snow accumulation prediction is correct, a major snowstorm is heading to New Hampshire on Monday and will last through Tuesday.

The latest forecast information, published by the National Weather Service before noon on Monday, called for between 7 to 14 inches of snow in most of the state — with at least 8 inches or more in all Patch communities.

"An area of low pressure will travel north along the East Coast today before moving into the Gulf of Maine late Tuesday," the winter storm warning alert said. "Significant snow accumulation is likely for the region. In addition, gusty northeasterly winds may result in blowing and drifting snow at times, mainly along the coast. While the bulk of (the) precipitation will fall as snow, some sleet will mix in as heavy snow exits to the north, particularly along the Midcoast of Maine."

AccuWeather.com, however, expected the heaviest band of snow to bring 12 to 18 inches of snow in the southwestern and central parts of the state — including Amherst, Bedford, Concord, Merrimack, Milford, and Nashua.

The rest of the state, including Exeter, Hampton, Londonderry, North Hampton, Portsmouth, Salem, and Windham will receive somewhere in the 6-to-12-inch range.

The commute on Monday is expected to be slippery due to low visibility and snow-covered roads due to snow falling between 1 and 2 inches per hour. Wind gusts could be as high as 35 mph and possibly higher on the Seacoast.

A coastal flood watch is also underway through Wednesday due to "minor flooding" in low-lying areas of the state including Hampton, North Hampton, and Portsmouth.

"Numerous roads may be closed," the alert stated. "Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Some shoreline erosion may occur."
