2 Seriously Hurt, Airlifted After Crash In Manahawkin

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Officials flew two people who sustained "serious injuries" to the hospital following a crash Thursday morning in Manahawkin, according to Stafford police. The accident caused their vehicle to run off the road into the front lawn of Atria Assisted Living.

The collision took place at 8:40 a.m. on Route 72 and Barnacle Drive. The driver of a 2014 Honda CRV tried crossing Route 72 from Barnacle Drive into the entrance of Health Village, according to police.

As she began crossing, she didn't see a 2004 Toyota Camry moving east on Route 72, police said. The CRV driver hit the other vehicle, causing it to run off the road into Atria Assisted Living's front lawn, according to authorities.

Officials flew the driver and passenger or the Camry to the Atlantic City Trauma Center. They are currently in the intensive care unit, Stafford police said at about 11 a.m. Thursday. Neither wore a seatbelt during the crash, according to authorities.

The CRV driver declined medical treatment.

Police diverted traffic for about 30 minutes. Traffic Safety Officer Justin Pascale is investigating the crash.
