Actor, Barnegat Native Micah Fowler Attends 'Night To Shine'

Micah Fowler, an actor with cerebral palsy, made the prom for people with special needs even more unforgettable.

BARNEGAT, NJ — How do you make an unforgettable night even more fantastic? A celebrity appearance. Actor and Barnegat native Micah Fowler attended the Bayside Chapel's "Night to Shine," a prom-night experience for people with special needs.

Hundreds of churches throughout the nation celebrated the "Night to Shine" last Friday. The Tim Tebow Foundation runs the event for people 14 and older with special needs. Fowler, who has cerebral palsy, was one of more than 100 guests at Barnegat's event.

Fowler and his younger sister, Kelsey, grew up performing in local theater productions. After his sister started taking roles on Broadway, Fowler looked to advance his acting career.

The actor is best known for his role on ABC sitcom "Speechless," where he played JJ DiMeo, who has cerebral palsy. The show ran from 2016-19.

Bayside Chapel was one of about 20 churches who hosted a "Night to Shine" event this year. The event has honored 115,000 guests through the support of 215,000 volunteers, according to the Tim Tebow Foundation.

"Thank you @timtebow for everything you do," Fowler wrote last year on an Instagram post featuring him and Tebow. "It means so much to me and so many others. You’re such an inspiration. I had so much fun tonight!"
