BARNEGAT, NJ — Seven candidates are running for three available Barnegat Township Board of Education positions. See the latest results as they come in.

Sharpe, Bivins and Churney are running under the ticket "The Next Voice," hoping to bring three new faces to the school board. The candidates have promised increased transparency and accountability from officials.

"We will demand results before the award is given!" the campaign said of the annual raise for the superintendent the board recently approved in a five-three vote. "The Next Voice promises to ask the right questions, advocate for the needs of the district, and say no to improper spending so that we are a fiscally responsible district."

Geddes, Continanza and Deemer are running under "The Brighter Future" ticket. Continanza and Geddes current serve on the board. They have pointed to the district's past accomplishments, such as a decrease in the tax rate increase from 2015-20, the free pre-K program for all Barnegat families and increasing technology in the district.

"We share many core values regarding education and direction for the district but are all independent thinkers who are not afraid to challenge the other point of view," Continanza said.

Fedorczyk, who has worked for 12 years in law enforcement, is running independently. He hopes to build trust in the board and administration.

"I believe with improved community interaction and transparency at the earliest possibly point of an issue this can be achieved," he told Patch. "In the end the current divide is only hurting the students."

Since the change to this year's election was announced by Gov. Phil Murphy because of the coronavirus, there have been many questions about how the process will work.

Every the ballot sent through the mail had to be postmarked by Nov. 3. It must be received by your county's election boards by 8 p.m. on Nov. 10.

"Every vote should be safe. Every vote should be secure. Every vote should be counted," Murphy said of the process.
