Person Seriously Hurt In Crash Just Outside Barnegat (UPDATE)

Officials flew someone to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after the Woodland Township crash.

WOODLAND, NJ — A person sustained "serious" injuries in a crash Thursday on Route 72 in Woodland Township. Officials flew the individual to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The incident occurred at 5:58 p.m. Thursday on milepost 9 of Route 72. One vehicle went off the road and into the woods, according to State Police Sgt. Philip Curry.

Police didn't publicly identify the injured person, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone else occupied the vehicle. Officials closed Route 72 from Route 539 in Barnegat to Route 532 in Burlington County.

Barnegat police assisted in directing traffic. The crash remains under investigation.
